Model 8002 Development Page

Here we will keep notes on the general specifications, history and plans for an SiC armor plate capable of resisting various tungsten projectiles.

Please remember that everything on this page is SUBJECT TO CHANGE as we test and complete planned R&D steps.  It is has not been 100% decided that we will bring this series back to market or which model numbers and variants that will become products offered in the commercial space.

Once we finalize the specs, field test and test at NIJ labs - we will offer these plates on a waiting list basis. Materials orders will be initiated once the 20 plate threshold has been crossed.  People that have paid for plates and want to be removed from the list may do so at any time prior to shipping with a full refund - no questions asked.

We anticipate having two versions of Gen 2 8002 plates:

Lighter Version: Stops M993 and lesser threats

Available in SAPI Medium at 6.75 pounds, 1.15", single-curved, NIJ drop-tested

Heavy Version: Stops 7N37, 300 Win Mag Swiss P AP, M993, 8mm SmKH, .308 SLAP and lesser threats.

Available in multi-curve or single-curve, 7.75 pounds, 1.25", NIJ drop-tested

Stay tuned to this page for plans, R&D news, testing results.

October 2026:

Current development has resulted in an autonomous RF1, high-performance PE used as a backer with Kevlar® 520 support at the bevel. The tested tile will be square in shape. A production variant total weight will be adjusted when upper chamfers are added and if minor lower edge cuts are added for comfort.  Weight variability still at .5 pounds due to these changes (including the Kevlar®).

Testing plans include possible testing at 3RBallistics (YouTube) video before end 2026 with many of the threats indicated for both light and heavy - to include 7N37 for the heavy version.

It is likely that a third plate may be tested: single-curve heavy.  This is the strongest configuration as backing layer adopt deflection in a single plane and the tile remains tightest and closest. May not be as "comfortable" but likely will outperform the multi-curve.
